Connect application requirements with mold steel, molded resin, silicone and the manufacturing route.

Material understanding before tool commitment

NewwaySmart combines material review with tooling, physical samples and production development. We can start from a specified grade or help define candidate directions when the material is not yet fixed. The review covers operating conditions, geometry, assembly and the process used to make the part. A datasheet is useful input; the decision also needs evidence from the relevant part and application.

Three different material decisions

Material decisionReview focus
Mold and component steelWear, corrosion, polishability, toughness, section size, heat treatment, finished hardness, repair and required service duty.
Thermoplastic partExact resin and filler, stiffness, impact, temperature, chemistry, electrical needs, appearance, shrinkage behavior and processing route.
Silicone or multi-material interfaceGrade and hardness, deformation, substrate condition, bonding or mechanical retention, thermal exposure and the assembled function.

Polymer directions in our engineering scope

Our material-development scope includes conventional and engineering polymers such as PC, ABS, PP, PS, PET-family materials, PMMA, PA, PBT, POM and PPO/PPE; elastomeric directions include TPU, TPE and related systems. High-performance material projects may involve PPS, PEEK, PEI and other specified grades. This is a review portfolio, not a statement that every grade is stocked or every geometry is already qualified for production.

For molding, identify the actual grade, reinforcement, color, permitted additives and required documentation. For a modified material, agree the properties to change and the tests that establish whether the change helps the final product. Films, sheets and plates may support a trial or a forming route, but their measured properties should not be silently transferred to a differently processed molded component.

A practical selection sequence

Define: function, load, temperature, chemicals, appearance, electrical needs and acceptance. Review: candidate grades, geometry and the proposed tooling/process. Build: representative material or part samples for the decision. Test: the agreed dimensions and functional conditions. Release: the accepted grade, process, documentation and change-control requirements for production.

What a useful brief contains

Send the drawing, current material and failure symptoms if any, operating conditions, mating parts, applicable requirements, sample quantity and intended production demand. Separate a short temperature exposure from continuous service, a material test from a finished-part test, and a desired property from a verified result. Mark unknowns so the review can focus on the next decision rather than assume a complete specification already exists.
