MULTI-MATERIAL SILICONE ASSEMBLIES
Silicone Insert Overmolding
Integrate a defined silicone region with a plastic or metal substrate through one coordinated engineering and manufacturing program.
Choose the required interface
We support LSR overmolding for sealing, retention and other specified functions. The review begins with the complete assembly and the purpose of the silicone region. Define whether the interface relies on adhesion, mechanical retention, compression after assembly or a combination. Substrate material and finish, silicone grade, geometry and the intended test determine the route; not every material pairing can be treated as an interchangeable combination.
Incoming inserts are part of the process
Supply insert drawings, allowable variation, surface condition and any plating or coating specifications. Identify protected contacts, threads, openings and cosmetic areas. We review how the insert will be located, supported during molding, loaded and removed without damage. Where cleaning, surface preparation or another operation is specified, define its acceptance and its position in the process sequence.
| Substrate | Exact plastic or metal grade, coating/plating, critical geometry and supplied cleanliness or handling condition. |
| Silicone | Selected grade, hardness, color, intended thickness and material evidence. |
| Tooling | Insert nests, shut-offs, protection of functional surfaces, gate and witness locations, and removal method. |
| Validation | Position, flash, retention or bond test, sealing performance and any agreed environmental exposure. |
| Project scope | Customer-supplied inserts or a complete component package; sample quantity, production demand and final packing. |
Documented connector application
Our Type-C connector project combines LSR with PA66 reinforced with 30% glass fiber and plated stainless-steel components. The recorded work includes assembly, sealing requirements and tooling/equipment delivery. This provides a concrete example of process integration; a new application still requires its own material pairing, interface design and acceptance test.
Trial, inspection and production integration
Trials use controlled insert and silicone conditions and retain identification of the tool revision and samples. Inspect the molded region and protected areas, then test the assembled function. Agreed corrections are followed by a repeat evaluation. The production scope can extend to insert feeding, inspection, downstream assembly and packaging. Manual and automated handling are selected by the actual geometry, variation and required output, not by a generic promise of full automation.
Can the mold and equipment be supplied for our factory?
Yes, an equipment or tooling handover can be included in the agreed project. Provide the receiving equipment and site conditions early. Define drawings, operating information, approved samples, trial results, spare parts and on-site responsibilities before ordering.
