PRODUCTION & MEASUREMENT SUPPORT

Assembly Fixtures & Inspection Tooling

Purpose-built nests, locating components and fixtures for a defined assembly, handling or inspection operation.

Start with the operation

We review what the fixture must locate, support, protect and verify. The request may be an assembly nest, an insert-loading fixture, a part-holding component for measurement or tooling for an automation workstation. Customers can order the fixture separately or include it in a molding, assembly and packing program. The design is built around the actual part condition and the operator or machine using it.

Define references without damaging the part

Provide the product drawing, assembly and inspection datums, expected incoming variation and protected cosmetic surfaces. Identify flexible, thin or delicate features that must not be used as an uncontrolled clamp reference. The review considers loading direction, access for tools or probes, orientation and prevention of incorrect loading. An inspection fixture and an assembly fixture may need different references even when holding the same product.

TaskLocating, joining, fastening, insertion, inspection, handling or packing; manual, assisted or automated use.
Part informationDrawings, physical samples, material, dimensional variation, cosmetic zones and relevant assembly state.
InterfacesWorkstation mounting, available space, tooling access, sensors and the equipment connection requirements.
AcceptanceLocation repeatability, part protection, operating sequence, inspection correlation and agreed trial quantity.
MaintenanceReplaceable contact elements, cleaning, wear checks, identification and spare-component requirements.

Build and verify with representative parts

The manufacturing route can combine precision-machined components, suitable contact materials and standard elements. Trial use should include representative part variation, not only one ideal sample. For measurement tooling, agree how results correlate with the reference measurement method. For assembly tooling, validate the resulting assembly and handling sequence rather than accepting the fixture solely because a part can be placed in it.

A practical starting point for automation

A stable locating and inspection method can be validated before adding more automated handling. We can scope a single fixture, a semi-automatic operation or tooling within a broader cell. Provide the target accepted output, variant mix and changeover needs. Equipment guarding, controls, utilities and machine compliance remain explicit project items whenever the work extends beyond a passive fixture.
