SHEET FORMING & PACKAGING TOOLING
Thermoforming & Vacuum Forming Tooling
Forming tools and sample development for sheet-based trays, pockets and shaped plastic structures.
Develop the tool around the sheet and the product
We connect sheet selection, forming geometry, tool manufacture and sample evaluation. Projects may include packaging trays, protective pockets, handling structures and other customer-defined formed shapes. For electronics packaging, the review also considers component orientation, contact protection and specified electrical properties. The scope can be a forming tool, trial samples or a defined production and trimming route.
Engineering review
Provide the input sheet thickness and the required finished geometry. We review local depth, transitions, corners, draft, venting, release, trim lines and nesting or stacking features. Identify where minimum formed thickness, appearance or component clearance matters. Nominal incoming sheet thickness does not establish thickness at every location of a formed part; those locations belong in the validation plan.
| Input material | Exact grade, sheet thickness and tolerance, width, surface and specified antistatic or conductive requirements. |
| Part or pocket | Component envelope, clearance, depth, orientation, stacking features and critical contact areas. |
| Equipment | Forming-machine and tooling interfaces, heating arrangement, vacuum/pressure route and trimming method. |
| Acceptance | Finished dimensions, local wall distribution, component fit, flatness, trim quality and agreed functional tests. |
| Supply | Trial quantity, variants, production demand, packing arrangement and delivery destination. |
Trial and approval
Samples are checked with representative components and the intended handling or stacking arrangement. Where electrical or temperature performance is specified, the finished format and selected material are evaluated under the agreed conditions. Tool or process adjustments are recorded before the next sample set. Appearance, fit and packaging function are assessed separately so approval is not based only on an attractive sample.
Related tooling routes
Carrier-tape pockets, injection-molded IC trays and extruded IC tubes have different tooling routes. Tell us the intended product rather than choosing a process solely from its name. We can review the appropriate route and its material, dimensional and delivery requirements. The actual tool envelope and production commitment are confirmed after project and equipment review.
