MICRO-FEATURE TOOLING
Micro Injection Molds
Precision tooling for small plastic parts, fine holes, thin sections and closely controlled functional features.
More than making a smaller mold
We connect micro-tool design with material selection, precision component manufacture, molding trials and metrology. Requests can start with a product model, a critical feature or a sample that needs improvement. The scope may be selected micro core pins and inserts, an experimental mold, a complete production tool or molded samples followed by production. The smallest feature, not simply the part’s overall size, guides the review.
Engineering decisions made together
The review covers forming-pin and insert layout, minimum steel sections, molding interfaces, gate and vent locations, parting lines, ejection and sample handling. Material grade and filler content are considered with the geometry. We also define how the critical feature will be measured: access, fixturing, datum interpretation and the condition of the molded part can all affect a usable acceptance plan.
| Feature definition | Minimum wall, hole or slot; pitch or array layout; sharp corners; intended function and mating parts. |
| Tool components | Core pins, cavity inserts, locating features, replaceable details and approved material/heat-treatment condition. |
| Part acceptance | Critical dimensions, datums, allowable flash, gate witness, appearance and function. |
| Measurement | Equipment and method suitable for the feature, sample conditioning, repeatability checks and reporting format. |
| Production planning | Trial quantity, future demand, cavity identification, controlled take-out and protection during packing. |
Capability is qualified at feature level
Our capability documentation includes selected 0.04 mm thin-wall molding and 0.0005 mm high-precision machining references. These refer to different operations and defined applications; they are not interchangeable tool and molded-part tolerances. The quoted acceptance requirement is established from the actual geometry, material, tooling and measurement plan. A minimum shot-weight direction also does not establish the minimum weight of every saleable molded part.
From development samples to repeat production
We agree the initial validation objective, produce the tool components, inspect and fit the tool, then make identified trial samples. Results are reviewed against dimensions, function and handling needs before committing to a repeat-production route. For changing designs, replaceable details or trial tooling can be evaluated. Equipment handover, spare components, inspection records and maintenance information are specified when the tool will run at the customer’s factory.
Can a micro-feature project lead to automation?
Yes. Part orientation, non-damaging take-out, inspection access and the final packaging format should be discussed early. Automated inspection must be tied to a defined feature and test method; detecting presence is not the same as verifying every critical dimension.
